With his San Francisco-based company LINES Ballet, Alonzo King combines classical technique with inventive, sensual and vibrant dance, using dancers of impeccable virtuosity.
The African-American choreographer Alonzo King is one of the contemporary masters of neo-classical ballet. An admirer of Balanchine, he draws lines that project his dancers into a never-ending dance, resulting in incredible articulation of the bodies. For The Collective Agreement, Jason Moran provides a rhythm that underlines the virtuosity of the dancers, while Ode to Alice Coltrane takes the company on a magnificent tribute to the musician.
