Description
For several years now, the Cannes National Orchestra has been inviting the orchestra’s own members to step forward and take centre stage as soloists for an evening: an opportunity to remind us that the collective sound is also shaped by the individual.
Jeremy Genet, principal cellist since 2023, invites us to (re)discover Haydn’s First Cello Concerto. Long believed to have been lost, the work only resurfaced in the 20th century, when a manuscript was identified in Prague in 1961, and has since established itself as one of the jewels of the classical cello repertoire. Brahms’ Piano Quintet is undoubtedly one of the composer’s most intense scores.
On this occasion, it will be performed in a recent orchestration by Henk de Vlieger. The intensity of the chamber music remains, but the sonic palette is broadened: the texture of the sections, the balances, and the shifting masses open up new perspectives, without diluting the power of the musical statement.
