Taking on a work as famous as *Carmen* is a challenge that is as daunting as it is appealing for any artist. Julien Lestel rises to the challenge with boldness, infusing it with a contemporary dimension whilst remaining faithful to the original storyline.

The Ballet Julien Lestel has created an ode to freedom by reviving the story of Carmen. While the plot remains the same, the characters take on a contemporary dimension through which the choreographer offers a relevant perspective on the situation of women today. His style draws on powerful and sensual dance, reflecting his flamboyant heroine.
